Baby Grand Piano/Baby Grand Daughter
July 5, 2011
Playing my baby grand piano and playing WITH my baby grand daughter are both opportunities to create. When playing with Aurora I create learning experiences for her. When playing my piano I create music from my experiences. My new CD ( “My Life”) ends with a song I wrote called “My Two Baby Grands” , a funny story about Aurora and I going down to Louisiana to play and sing together. It could not have been written without the priceless moments I spend playing with her while both of us grow and create.
Holiday? There’s no holidays in art!
July 4, 2011
Now I’m not against holidays, I’m not un-american, I’m certainly not negative and I KNOW I’m in a minority. Holidays were never a big deal for me. As a kid it seemed like a waste of time to not being able to do what I wanted to do, which was not go to some party, visit some cousins or get dressed up for a special occasion. I wanted to play, create, invent, improvise and do something that everybody else was NOT doing. Art never takes a holiday, just like death. I respect all the millions of hard working men and women who work hard at a job they don’t like and deserve holidays to relax, am most of all am grateful to the men and women in uniform, be it here or overseas. Being an artist is so enjoyable I don’t want to take a day off to celebrate some day that has nothing to do with what I’m into. I’m not a workaholic and I’m not egotistic, just anti-holiday.
Contemplating, Commenting and Composing
July 2, 2011
Contemplating my new life style, commenting on other people’s blogs and composing my own blog and music has my head in a high place. While raising my grand daughter, finding ways to connect intelligently and emotionally with my wife and daughter, working out and doing yard work, I do all the contemplating, composing I can and hope some one will comment on my composing. I’m still contemplating how to do all this while being here and now. I LIKE IT!!!!!!
My new life
June 28, 2011
This business of being a retired Karate Instructor and a full time Musician is going to be interesting. I’m learning how to do it while doing it at the same time!!! Its going to take a while to get use to making my own schedule, using my energy in more creative ways and learning more about on line marketing. The hardest thing to learn is how to ask the right question to the right person.
Giging and playing
June 26, 2011
Friday night’s gig with Dave Morgan and Bob Bowen was FUN!!! We just jammed on old standards and had a ball. A group of people from New Orleans came in and made the gig extra special. They danced, tipped well and even bought one of my CD’ s. Dave and Bob played circles around but made made me look good.
Saturday was Aurora’s day with me all day. We went to the mall and visited Marc Baskind at Hayden music, played on the escalators, bought her a new pair of sunglasses ( she threw her last ones out of the car window) ate lunch at the co-op, came home for a nap, went to the playground, watched Scooby Doo on DVD and after a bath ( she poured a pitcher of water on the floor of the bathroom) went to bed. What a day!!!!
Sunday I was back at the Hotel Roanoke’s Regency Room playing solo piano for brunch. Tips were unusually fat!!
